Act II: The Physics of the Pinewood Derby

In Act II, we examine 12 different design considerations for a pinewood derby car. We use physics --both theoretical and experimental-- to see how each design detail can affect the speed of a car. Most of this is presented in a way that your child will be able to understand. Occasionally, however, more challenging details are presented. At the end of each section, take-away points are given so they can be used in the construction or your car (which will be covered in Act III). Experiments that you can perform at home to illustrate each physical concept are also presented.
